Area guide to New Golden Mile :
The smartest area in Estepona, the New Golden Mile is home to high-end apartment complexes, luxury beach clubs and gran-luxe hotels as well attractive beaches. However, build-density is much lower than in Marbella and other resorts, and as a result, the New Golden Mile is one of the quieter areas on the coast.
Where is The New Golden Mile?
This part of Estepona is located along the coastline between El Paraíso and Estepona town. The centre of Estepona, a quiet market town with Europe’s largest orchidarium, blue-flag beaches and a lovely old quarter, is just a short drive away. Marbella and Puerto Banus lie to the east and take around 15 minutes to reach by car. Malaga Airport is a 45 minute drive.
Why buy in The New Golden Mile?
Since its beginnings a few years ago, the New Golden Mile has grown in popularity with both Spanish and foreign property buyers. Reasons for buying here include:
Location: A property on the New Golden Mile puts you within easy reach of the busy resort of Marbella to the east and the quieter town of Estepona in the west. Estepona has good amenities and is a family-friendly resort, often chosen for its tranquility compared to Marbella. The New Golden Mile runs along the coast in its entirety so most property is beachfront and many apartments enjoy frontline beach views. The fast toll road (AP7) provides easy access to both Malaga Airport and Sotogrande and Gibraltar, another option for flights to the UK.
Luxury address: Not as expensive and possibly slightly less glamourous than the original Golden Mile in Marbella, the New Golden Mile in Estepona nevertheless still provides an address with a touch of luxury. This part of the coast boasts some of the best beach clubs on the Costa del Sol including Puro Beach at Laguna Village (also home to boutiques and restaurants), Titikano Beach and Sonora Beach. And several gran-luxe hotels are based here including the Kempinski Bahía and Las Dunas.
Beachfront living: Many apartment complexes enjoy beachfront locations with the added advantage of quieter beaches than many resorts on the Costa del Sol. Sand here is grey and some parts of the beaches are shingle, but the low-density construction and stretches of undeveloped coastline mean this coastline offers tranquility and space, often difficult to find on other Costa del Sol beaches. Sea views here always take in the Straits of Gibraltar and the African coast beyond.
Good amenities: Its proximity to Estepona to the west and El Paraíso to the east means there’s a good choice of amenities within easy reach of the New Golden Mile. El Paraíso offers several supermarkets, banks and a range of other shops plus a variety of restaurants. Estepona, although small, provides services such as health clinics (both state-run and private) and a post office, and also has an attractive marina.
Sports facilities: The New Golden Mile is a great location for golfers who have easy access to both golf courses in Marbella (there are several in Golf Valley) and those in Estepona including the renowned Los Flamingos course.
What can I buy in The New Golden Mile?
Apartment complexes make up the main choice and most offer high-end specifications in spacious living. Many have exceptional communal facilities including tropical gardens and several pools. Perhaps the biggest advantage of buying on the New Golden Mile is its affordability compared to similar properties in nearby Marbella.
