the pueblo that also has everything
Benahavís Area Guide | Benahavis, Costa del Sol, Andalusia, Spain :
Famed for its gastronomy, the small white village of Benahavis offers tranquil living in stunning natural surroundings.
Where is Benahavis?
Benahavis is located around 8km inland from the A7 highway in the foothills of the Sierra de la Nieves mountain range. Puerto Banus and Marbella are just a short drive away, and Estepona lies slightly further to the west. Malaga Airport takes about 50 minutes to reach.
Why buy in Benahavis?
Small on size but big on popularity, Benahavis has long been a favourite among foreign buyers, some of whom have established their permanent home here. In the village, life continues much as it ever has despite the influx of outside influence and this remains one of the most authentically Spanish spots on the Costa del Sol. Reasons for buying in Benahavis include:
Village-living:
With a property in the typically whitewashed village, you can sample the best of both worlds. On the one hand, you can enjoy the slow pace and tranquility that characterise Benahavis and on the other, pop down to the coast to make the most of everything on offer in the busy resorts of Marbella and Puerto Banus. Benahavis is one of the richest municipalities in Spain – La Zagaleta and El Madroñal, two of the most select developments in Spain form part of its territory – and this is apparent in the amenities offered within the village and its surroundings.
Gourmet paradise:
The village itself is tiny, but despite its small size, Benahavis offers a huge choice of excellent restaurants, some of which rank among the best in Spain. Locals and holidaymakers flock here to sample the very latest in gourmet creations.
Natural surroundings:
Benahavis enjoys a privileged position at the head of three rivers and in the mountains. Views are stunning from the village and nearby developments, and stretch for miles up the valley towards the high mountains near Ronda. You can make the most of the lovely scenery on the new walk that follows the Moorish irrigation channels alongside the river to the south of village. Descending Benahavis River is a popular adventure sport and a challenge even in high summer.
Superior property:
Benahavis council has carefully controlled property development within the municipality and catered specifically for a high-end market. As a result, property within the village and the surroundings comes with a higher price tag than other parts of the Costa del Sol but offers superior fittings and facilities. Many complexes are golf-based such as Los Arqueros Golf and Country Club on the road to Ronda or the Monte Mayor course whose mountain-valley position makes it one of the most scenic courses on the Costa del Sol. Benahavis is also home to La Heredia, an attractive village-style complex painted in pastels and with a combination of French and Andalusian architecture, plus two exclusive developments, La Zagaleta and El Madroñal whose mansions count among the most expensive in Spain.
